ABOUT Big Blue Teen Center

Big Blue Teen center officially opened its doors on August 1, 2020. This ribbon-cutting ceremony was really a culmination of years of planning, fundraising and teen-inspired input and meetings. We are extremely grateful to the Capon Valley Fire Department who has leased us the building and grounds at NO COST.

Big Blue is is a 501c3 organization governed by a board of directors and regularly staffed by the Core Team volunteers, see pictures and bios below. Other regular volunteers lend a hand by helping out with a variety of needs: driving the bus, bringing meals, leading art projects, giving special presentations or talks, and supervising on Saturdays nights or for special events. Big Blue is a true testimony of a community coming together!

Why do you call it 'Big Blue?'

Creating a teen center in our community has been the dream of several on our team for quite a while. Several years ago, local residents began inviting teens to an outdoor showing of meaningful movies each Friday evening. A large screen was built and a huge tarp was stretched over the seating area. It was a big blue tarp. So, the Friday night event came to be known as "BIG BLUE."

We want to convey the vision we have for the youth and the great relationship that awaits them with the Creator of the Universe- the Living God! A life full of possibilities lies ahead of them, and the God who can be known by every young person has an adventure-filled plan for their life!  It's as big and limitless as the Big Blue Sky. Start the adventure now!

We are a dedicated team of volunteers that serve our community by investing in the youth of our community!

Chris & Christine Montgomery have been married since November 13,1999 and have 3 wonderful boys. She says she 'married her best friend.'  Christine grew up here in Wardensville and graduated from East Hardy High School. They are members of the Wardensville Assembly of God where they serve on the Praise and Worship team and Christine helps out in the Children's Ministry. Chris has recently become the Interim Pastor of Wardensville Assembly of God and is in the process of becoming licensed and getting his credentials. He is also an electrician and often works out electrical issues for many of Big Blue's events. They are happy to be part of Big Blue and to be able to reach out and minister to teens.

Eric Miller joined the Core Team in February 2022 and currently serves as Big Blue's Director of Ministry leading regular Saturday night devotionals called 'CrossOver' and Sunday's Dinner & Discipleship. In addition to raising his own teen, Eric is working toward being a licensed Minister through Pnemua Ministerial Association and building his own business- Alpha & Omega Barbeque. He also hosts a podcast called 'BOrn Again; to Live!' Eric truly lives to serve others- and does it all with a smile on his face and joy in his heart.

Susan Evans joined Core Team in 2024, but has served on the board of directors for Big Blue since the beginning. She brings years of devotion, teaching and ministry experience to the table and currently serves in an administrative role to both Big Blue's Board or Directors and the Core Team.

Shanda Walker is the Assistant Principal at Moorefield Elementary School. She is a mom of 3 and has a love of Christ that she can't wait to share with others. This love has led her to become Co-Leader of the Core Team at Big Blue. When she's not a Big Blue, Shanda is traveling or attending concerts- constantly crossing items off her ever-evolving Bucket List!

Amy Tubbs has been involved with Big Blue since it first opened its doors in August of 2020. She currently serves as the director for Camp Paddy Run in Star Tannery, VA and enjoys seeing so many of her campers also come to Big Blue. She also co-host the 'Born Again; to Live!' podcast with fellow Core Teamster, Eric Miller. Amy is excited to be involved in Big Blue because of its 'small batch' discipleship approach.

April Kohne joined Core Team in 2024. As a mom of 3 teenage girls, it takes a lot to rattle April! She is crafty and gifted at taking photos and baking. She works full-time for Laurel Ridge Community College in the career development department.
